How committed are you to your work? Are you concentrating on your career objectives? Do you believe you deserve a promotion and higher pay? Are you willing to alter your mentality to achieve job satisfaction? This advice is provided by Sarah Berry, a career counselling expert from the United Kingdom and the author of five best-selling career books.
As a career consultant and executive career counsellor, it is extremely uncommon to receive a note from a client stating, “I am the individual who needs to change.” Obviously, you are the person who needs to change, but do you take the necessary steps? Instead of focusing on the other person’s, deal’s, or company’s flaws, should you consider what changes you need to make in order to achieve your own personal happiness at work?

Failure to obtain the desired position
Have you pursued a position that you truly desired, either internally or externally? Did you believe you deserved it but didn’t receive it? How did you respond and handle the situation? Have you responded with anger or envy? Who did you blame? Did you blame the interviewer, the recruitment consultant, the economic climate, the timing, or other factors? In actuality, these things could not respond and tell you the truth.
Consider the things that bring you joy. How different are you? How do you react when you are feeling great? Being aware of how your emotions affect your physical and mental health will improve your employment prospects. Avoid thinking about the great job you didn’t get above all else. As a career counselling service, we frequently assure our clients that there will always be a better job available.
“I don’t feel that bad about it” is another frequent response. Rather than denial, shouldn’t you strive for a sense of satisfaction with your current situation? How expansive is your view of situations? Do you tend to view a situation as wholly negative or wholly positive? Have you grown spoiled? Have you lost appreciation for what you already possess? Are your lifestyle and spending habits compelling you to change jobs?
I am in no way suggesting that you should be satisfied with what you have. Self-improvement is essential if you want to advance in your career and accomplish more. The process begins with you, and you must determine how things can be improved. How and where could you contribute positively at work today? It is far too simple to place the emphasis on someone else. Initially, your contribution will likely feel incredibly insignificant, and you may even feel embarrassed and be tempted not to participate. Consider a thank-you phone call to someone who assisted you last week, for instance. Yes, it may be something you have stopped doing because you have been so preoccupied with your daily tasks that you have put it off. If you begin to modify your behaviour, you will quickly discover that your energy and motivation shift as well. Then, you seek out alternative sources of personal satisfaction and contentment.
The human factor
It is sometimes too easy to forget that your coworkers are also human. They have their own weaknesses, habits, and needs, which are often overlooked in the daily rush. To get along better with your coworkers, you must stop seeing them as separate from you and begin to understand their personalities better. To build a strong team and strengthen relationships within that team, it is essential for each member to understand the dominant personality traits of their teammates and how these traits are similar to or different from their own.
As a result, it becomes simpler to comprehend what drives and motivates your boss, coworkers, and clients, allowing you to develop more satisfying, empathic, and profound working relationships. Thus, emotions such as resentment, jealousy, fear, vengeance, and anger that fuel workplace conflict can be recognised for what they are: a misunderstanding between individuals.
Money
How much have you invested in your happiness? What would you do if you had unlimited funds to make a difference in the lives of others? How important do you feel money is? How large are your desires? Obviously, money is important because you must work to make a living. Do you consider your job to be a burden? Are you wealthy in terms of time and satisfaction? Do you need to reconsider and alter your perspective on money?
Self-Worth
How strong is your self-awareness and sense of self-worth? It is essential that you understand your abilities and strengths at work. Consider your behaviour and interactions with others in the workplace. To advance in your career, you must begin to recognise and comprehend who you truly are. There is no need to compete with others; all you need to do is release your power and be yourself. When you have a healthy sense of who you are, you will begin to alter the ways in which you create your own fulfilment and sense of accomplishment.
Openness, self-awareness, and a willingness to improve oneself – ideally on a daily basis – are the keys to achieving happiness at work. When you are satisfied with your job, you begin to look better and experience greater personal fulfilment. Whatever you believe would make you happy is attainable. If you wish to increase your income, you must examine your beliefs regarding money. If you want to add more meaning to your work, you’ll need to determine what a meaningful job’means’ to you. If you want to improve your lifestyle, you’ll need to concentrate on and engage in more of the activities you enjoy most, both at work and at home. Is it not time to implement your personal goals, dreams, and aspirations?
